The Cypress House was built in the 1940s as a hunting and fishing lodge, and the interior features cypress tongue and groove paneled walls and ceilings. It is located just across the Beach Road from the ocean with a beach access right out the front door. Six guest rooms are available with private shower baths, ceiling fans, a micro-fridge, cable TV and wireless internet. Bikes, beach chairs and beach towels are available for guests. Each morning you’ll awake to the smell of freshly brewed coffee, which is available before breakfast for early risers, and the innkeepers serve a delightful full breakfast. The Cypress House has a common living room with a fireplace and a large wrap-around porch and is also available for weddings, teas or other special occasions.

Cypress Moon is located on the sound and offers three waterfront guest rooms. Each one has a private bath and is furnished with antiques, satellite TV, stereo and refrigerator. A fresh, hot breakfast is served each morning. Bikes and kayaks are available for exploring. The inn is a non-smoking establishment. It is not suitable for young children. The owners, and your hosts, Greg and Linda Hamby, have been residents of the Outer Banks for more than 35 years.

This motel is neat and well-kept. Most of the motel is located on the oceanfront, but there are some rooms available in separate buildings across the beach road. They also handle the reservations for one of the traditional motels on the beach. Choose from accommodations of efficiencies, suites up to two bedrooms and standard rooms. Efficiencies and suites have full kitchens, and rooms have micro-fridges and coffee makers. Free wireless internet is available in all rooms. There is an outdoor pool open in season. All guests can enjoy complimentary access to the Outer Banks YMCA in Nags Head, which has outdoor and indoor pools, fitness equipment, aerobics and yoga classes. Every morning the motel serves a complimentary continental breakfast. Days Inn Mariner is open all year with the exception of one week around Christmastime.

This oceanfront establishment offers rooms, suites and cottages. The suites are large rooms with a kitchenette, and the cottages range from two to eight bedrooms, all with complete kitchens. Enjoy direct ocean access and an outdoor pool that is open in season. They also have a volleyball court and grills for guest use. Wireless internet access is available in rooms and cottages, and there is a computer available for guest use in the lobby. Pets are not allowed in the hotel or cottages. The Days Inn is open year round except for a few days around Christmas.

The Nags Head Beach Inn is located in a restored, historic Nags Head building. Originally called the Nags Head Beach Club, the building was popular in the 1930s as a pavilion-style dance hall. Originally an annex to the Nags Header Hotel (one of the original hotels on the Outer Banks), the entire building was moved north to E. Admiral Street in the 1970s. Today, the inn has eight guest rooms all located just 125 yards from the beach. There are two room styles available: The first includes a full-size bed and private bathroom with a stand-up shower, and the second is a larger room with a queen-sized bed, sitting area and private bathroom with a Jacuzzi tub. The innkeepers serve a continental breakfast every morning. They have bikes, beach chairs and body boards available for guest use as well as an outdoor shower. The inn is non-smoking.

Outer Banks Motor Lodge is open from March to December.

Owens’ Motel

Situated adjacent to the venerable Owens’ Restaurant, this old Nags Head style motel features oceanfront efficiencies with double, queen and king bed options plus full kitchens, private balconies with spectacular views and tile baths and showers. Rooms feature refrigerators, microwaves and cable TV and are great if you spend all day at the beach and just need something simple. They have a lovely honeymoon suite apartment that is gorgeously decorated and comfortable. There’s no internet or phones here, so come and fully relax. Built in the 1950s, Pelican Cottages consist of one three-bedroom and two two-bedroom oceanfront cottages. These white-shingled bungalows feature queen and bunk beds, full kitchens, microwaves, cable TV and porches with rockers. They also offer enclosed outdoor showers that are a great pleasure after a day at the beach, but don’t worry, they have lovely full bathrooms inside too if that’s just not your thing. Their location near the fishing pier and good local restaurants is ideal. You can also enjoy indoor and outdoor pool access as well as full membership benefits at the local YMCA (see Recreation), which includes access to the gym, yoga and fitness classes and child care. Pelican Cottages is a pet-friendly location.

Built in the 1950s, this is one of the treasured old-school beach motels. Saltaire is great for families and has watched generations of them return each year. They have an in-ground pool that’s also right across from the beach. Accommodations include 10 two-bedroom apartments and two three-bedroom cottages. Plus, they offer one-bedroom apartments in the off-season. The cottages have cable TV with VCRs, heat/air-conditioning and telephones. All apartments have cable TV with VCRs, heat/air conditioning, telephones, full kitchens and private screened porches. In fact, the screened porches are one of their most enjoyable features.

Sandspur Motel & Cottage Court

Located on the oceanfront, the Sandspur has been family owned and operated since 1970. Sea Foam offers oceanfront rooms and efficiencies. They also have cottages and a deluxe apartment. All cottages and efficiencies come completely furnished and have refrigerators, stoves and microwaves. All units and rooms have cable TV with HBO, air conditioning, phones, refrigerators and microwaves. Rooms above the first floor have private balconies. Other offerings include free Wi-Fi internet access, a heated pool, shuffleboard court and a children’s play area. Pets are not allowed. The Sea Foam is open March to mid-December.

Sea Kove Motel
