Textile artist and photographer Lara Parks has opened a new frame shop and gallery in the Gaither Center in Kill Devil Hills. Lara does all the custom framing herself, and she can help you select the perfect frames for your photographs and artwork. She also operates a gallery that features local paintings, pottery, photograph, scarves, handmade bags, sculpture and some painted furniture. It’s open Tuesday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Lilly’s Closet is one of the only clothing stores on the beach devoted exclusively to children. They have children’s clothing and swimwear in sizes from newborns up to size seven. Their new line of super-soft organic onesies for baby are very cute (and eco-friendly)! This Gallery Row shop offers a mix of attractive and reasonably priced jewelry made from semi-precious stones and silver, including creative wire-wrapped and broken china jewelry made by a local artist. The owner, Chris, travels to find small companies and individual artists to carry in the shop, so you’ll find items here that you won’t likely see elsewhere. She features more than 200 artists in the shop, and it’s filled with unusual finds such as whimsical garden figurines, wind chimes, typewriter key earrings, Twilight series and recycled button jewelry, dog treats and retro candy.

Located at the southernmost end of Nags Head, the Oregon Inlet Fishing Center store is filled with apparel, food stuff such as hot dogs and BBQ sandwiches, and recreational gear. Shop here for hats, T-shirts, fishing poles, bait, tackle, snacks, beer, books, sundries, ice and more. This is one of the marinas where the offshore boats are located, and a treat is to visit around 4 p.m. on summer afternoons and watch these vessels come in, loaded with the deep sea catch of the day.
