Here’s a new surf shop in town that feels like it’s been here forever. Family-owned and operated, they have custom boards hand-shaped by Tom Neilson, plus custom board fins, and they also rent boards and do surf lessons. Not a surfer but love the waves? You’ll find boogie boards and skim boards too. They sell clothing and swimsuits from Lucy Love, Body Glove and Synergy. You’ll find great handmade Island sandals from Hawaii, teak tables and chairs, tie-dye items, custom-designed T-shirts, Himalyan rock salt lamps and lots of gifts for all your friends back home. Did we mention the ice cream? Try 48 amazing hand-dipped flavors in cups, cones, sundaes, banana splits, shakes or floats. They even make their own rootbeer.

In the adjoining Lamp Shop they have nautical lamps of all kinds, including beautiful stained-glass lamps. They also have shell lamps with a glass lamp base that you can purchase already filled with loose shells, or you can use your own shell collection.

Seaside Art Gallery

Art lovers and collectors must stop in Seaside and wander through the 13 rooms of incredible fine art and other treasures. The Smith family opened the gallery in 1961 and still operates Seaside today in its original location. The gallery showcases 2,000 original works by local and world-renowned artists, including original work from masters such as Picasso and Rembrandt as well as coastal paintings, fine art prints, sculpture, pottery, porcelains, Mexican silver jewelry, Hummel figurines and animation art by Disney and Warner Brothers. The owner is a fine art and animation art accredited appraiser. Seaside also has a fine estate jewelry collection. Seaside hosts several exciting art shows annually, including the International Miniature Art Show and artist demonstration shows.

Secret Spot Surf Shop

Outfit yourself to surf, skate or sun. This shop is an old-time favorite offering custom-made Secret Spot surfboards as well as used boards, boogie boards and more. Check out the retro collection of surfboards on the ceiling. You also can rent a board or get a surf report, and lessons are available. The whole family can shop for summer apparel, including bathing suits, shoes, shorts and Secret Spot T-shirts. They specialize in stuff for babies and kids, so if you have little ones, this is your place. Other cool findings include the selection of summer dresses for women and girls, the collection of tropical gifts and surf art and their killer selection of sunglasses.

The Shipwreck is one of those old-time treasures of a shop that’s been around for decades. Stop ‘N Shop is a convenience store and deli with a decidedly gourmet spin. In the deli you’ll find excellent sandwiches prepared to order with Boars Head meats. Every day they have several specials. The deli is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner. You can choose from a great selection of wine and beer, including kegs. They also have convenience items and snacks as well as a full line of gourmet sauces and foods. Check out their huge hot sauce collection. They also have beach supplies and are the place to go for flip-flops from Reef, Sanuk or Rainbow. They have a large selection of sunglasses, including Anarchy, Angel, Smith, Maui Jim, Costa del Mar, Oakley, Arnette, Ray Ban and Hobie. Plus they have the usual T-shirts, accessories, hats and souvenirs. They also do gift baskets to order.

Sugar Shack is located right next to Sugar Creek Soundfront Seafood Restaurant. This is the place to pick up the freshest seafood around. Choose from steamed seafood like shrimp, lobster and king crab legs, or pick up a steamer bucket with a variety of steamed seafood. You can also eat here — the fresh fish sandwiches and boats (including Shack chips and slaw) they make here are some of the best we’ve ever eaten anywhere! Everything is cooked to order. You can dine inside or out, and either way you’ll have a fantastic view of the sound. They also stock beer. The Sugar Shack is a great way to feed a crowd at home, and they deliver within a 6-mile radius.
